This page is for discussion of the general structure of the site.

There are a number of possible candidates for smaller subsections of this site. (None of the following is a requirement for an operating site. Rather, they are things that would facilitate use of the site if they turn out to be feasible.)

Front Page

A site like this needs a point of access. Possible functionalities for this page:

• Recently Added list
• Link to RSS feed (or equivalent)
• Search
• Link to directory of registered users

Recently Added Page

Should there, in addition to any Recently Added list on the front page, be a separate page with a larger list of recent activity (think of the What's New list at the SEP)? 

Profile Pages for Registered Users

Possible functionalities

• Image upload
• Contact information (through site or otherwise)
• Brief bio (simplified CV)
   

Directory Page

Should there be a directory page with a list of all registered users?

File Pages

That is, the uploaded drafts themselves. There are a great many questions to discuss on this point.

1. What range of formats should be allowed? (RTF, DOC, PDF, HTML, PS?)

2. Should each uploaded contribution get a separate page? (For instance, if I upload a draft of "Philosophy and Basket-Weaving", should there be a special page devoted to it, complete with abstract, comments box, etc.?)

3. What should be required with upload? (One possibility: in addition to each uploaded contribution there should be an abstract, to assist browsers and searchers).

Site Weblog / Forum

Should the site have a group weblog to facilitate the more informal commentary?

pro- could easily be integrated into some sort of rating system

con- somewhat limited for discussion (on the other hand, this might have its uses)

Should it instead use a forum-style approach, with structured discussion threads?

pro- very flexible for discussion

con- might overcomplicate the weighting of comments and rating of reviews
